The film takes place a year after the events of the first installment. Newt Scamander, a young and talented magizoologist, is recruited by Albus Dumbledore (played by Jude Law) to prevent the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (played by Johnny Depp) from unleashing a catastrophic war on the non-magical community.
