The "X6" designation followed Serif’s naming convention for their version 6 of the X-series. It succeeded MoviePlus X5 and was later followed by the short-lived MoviePlus X7 (before the entire product line was sunset).

The audio timeline was not an afterthought. Users could record voiceovers directly into the timeline, mix multiple audio tracks, apply EQ and compression, and use a waveform visualiser for precise cut points.
