Ripping a DVD you own for personal backup is legal in some jurisdictions. Distributing that rip (uploading to torrent sites or file lockers) is not. However, because many of these parody DVDs are abandonware (the production companies have gone bankrupt), the preservation argument is strong. For many cult fans, DVDrips are the only reason these films haven’t vanished entirely.
