Open your image ( File > Open ). Step 2: Select the Magic Wand tool from the left toolbar. Set the "Tolerance" to 20. Step 3: Click on the background area. You will see "marching ants" (the selection outline). Step 4: Hold Shift and click additional background areas to add them to the selection. Step 5: Right-click the image and select Inverse Selection . Now the person is selected instead of the background. Step 6: Go to Layer > New > Layer via Cut . This lifts the person onto a new transparent layer. Step 7: Delete the original background layer. Step 8: Create a new layer below the person layer and use the Paint Bucket to fill it with blue.
